Atg12, a unique ubiquitin-like protein with a protective C-terminal glycine, is linked to Atg5 by Atg7 and Atg10. This forms a complex with Atg16, which self-oligomerises to create a multimeric structure. While the exact functions are still being studied, this complex is known to localise to the pre-autophagosomal structure (PAS) in yeast, playing a vital role in autophagosome formation.

Dr Mizushimima had groundbreaking work in autophagy which includes the discovery of the ATG12 conjugation system, a pivotal protein in regulating autophagy. Notably, Dr Mizushima has collaborated with Dr Yoshinori Ohsumi, the esteemed recipient of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contributions to autophagy research. Download the white paper.

Additionally, research has shown an association of mammalian autophagy with pathological conditions including neurodegenerative diseases, infection, cardiac disease, cancer and ageing. MBLI’s autophagy reagents include important targets such as LC3, p62/SQSTM1, ATG12, ATG14, ATG16L, ATG9, ULK1, and more.

Download the Autophagy Pathway Poster

Anti-Atg10 (Human) mAb (Monoclonal Antibody)
M151-3

Anti-Atg12 (Human) mAb (Monoclonal Antibody)
M154-3

Explore all Autophagy products

Information provided by MBL.

Caltag Medsystems is the distributor of MBL products in the UK and Ireland.
