Long Description:
Chemical. CAS: 134861-34-0. Formula: C56H55N15O10S6. MW: 1290.5. Isolated from Planobispora rosea. Thiopeptide antibiotic. Antibacterial agent by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Active against numerous Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. Inhibitor of domain II of elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu). Inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the GDP to GTP conformational change and by directly competing with aminoacyl-tRNA for the same binding site on EF-Tu.
