Long Description:
The platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family of heparin-binding growth factors consists of five known members, denoted PDGF-A, -B, -C and ?D that form disulfide-linked homodimers and one heterodimer. PDGF-CC is expressed in actively angiogenic tissues such as placenta, some embryonic tissues and tumors (1). It induces fibroblast reactivity and fibrosis in a wide range of tissues (2). PDGF-CC interacts with two related protein tyrosine kinase receptors, PDGFR-α and PDGFR-β. Delivery of PDGF-CC enhanced post ischemic revascularization of the heart and limb, therefore, modulating the activity of PDGF-CC may provide novel opportunities for treating ischemic diseases (3). PDGF-CC has been shown to be a potent neuroprotective factor that acts by regulating glycogen synthase kinase 3β activity (4).
