The G-401 cell line was derived from a Wilms' tumor (nephroblastoma) from the kidney of a 3-month-old infant. Following revisions to the classification of this tumor type, Garvin et al. confirmed that this cell line actually originated from a rhabdoid tumor of the kidney. The G-401 cell line secretes nephroblastoma growth factor (NB-GF).
