Reuse

Reusing your wool liner is the most environmentally friendly option as it extends the life of this renewable material without the need for additional processing or emissions. By finding new uses for your liner, you can help reduce waste while getting even more value from them.

Below are just a few ideas to inspire you.

And if you can't reuse your liners yourself, someone else may be able to. Consider donating them to a local animal shelter or offering them through online marketplace platforms so they can continue to be used and enjoyed.

Around the home and garden

The natural wool can be repurposed as cushion filling or draught excluders and used in upholstery projects. It's also great for use with nature, wildlife, and pets for lining hanging baskets, building bug hotels, or adding comfort to pet bedding.

Practical everyday uses

Thanks to its flexibility and insulating properties, Woolcool® can be reused to protect laptops inside backpacks, wrap pipes for extra insulation, or cut into warm insoles for boots or wellies.

Get creative

Wool also lends itself beautifully to arts and crafts. From needle-felted toys and handmade clothing to Christmas decorations, theatre props, and large-scale art installations, the possibilities are endless. With a little imagination, your liners can become something entirely new.

Recycle

When reusing isn't the right option for you, Woolcool® liners can also be recycled.

For UK Mainland recycling processes, rip the wool out of the plastic sleeve and break apart to compost or recycle it within garden waste. The plastic sleeve can then be recycled in the same way as carrier bags, either within household recycling (if accepted) or at a carrier bag recycling point.

Rules regarding recycling can vary by location and are constantly evolving, so please check with your local authority if you are not sure which materials they accept, or where best to place them.

Return

Whilst we encourage you to reuse, donate or recycle your wool liners whenever possible to reduce emissions and make the biggest positive impact, Woolcool® also offers a sector-leading circular economy return scheme, allowing you to send back your real wool insulated liners for reuse — completely free of charge.

To use this service, you must meet all three of the following criteria:

  1. You are unable to reuse or recycle your Woolcool® liners
  2. You are returning 5 or more Woolcool® liners
  3. You are based in mainland UK
