Bioactivity:
MitoPeDPP serves as a cell-permeable fluorescent probe used to detect mitochondrial lipid peroxides. It exhibits selectivity for tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP) rather than hydrogen peroxide, superoxide, nitric oxide, or peroxynitrite. When oxidized by lipid peroxides, MitoPeDPP emits fluorescence at 470 nm when excited at 452 nm. Monitoring lipid peroxidation is crucial for understanding numerous cellular processes, particularly ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death marked by heightened lipid peroxidation.
