Background:
WEHI-3 is an animal cell line isolated from the peripheral blood of mice with leukemia; its growth is inhibited by 4 ng/mL of lipopolysaccharide and blocked by higher concentrations. Dextran sulfate at 30 to 40 g/mL also inhibits growth. Latex beads are phagocytosed but not toxic. Yeast polysaccharides and BCG are phagocytosed and inhibit growth. These cells show only weak effector activity in antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Testing came back negative for mousepox virus.
