Background:
Cytogenetically, U-118 MG (HTB-15) and U-138 MG (HTB-16) are highly similar and share at least six derivative marker chromosomes. Note: The two glioblastoma cell lines U-118 MG (HTB-15) and U-138 MG (HTB-16), reportedly derived from different individuals, display identical VNTR and similar STR profiles. These cell lines were established by J. Pont?n et al. from malignant gliomas between 1966 and 1969 (other lines include HTB-14 and HTB-17). Mycoplasma contamination in U-118 MG (HTB-15) cells was eradicated in 1987 by 6 weeks of treatment with BM-Cycline.
