Background:
GES-1 cells were isolated and cultured from gastric epithelial cells of a 9-month-old human fetus, and established following SV40 virus transfection and selection. Apart from their transformed characteristics, GES-1 cells largely retain normal cytoskeletal structures, including microfilaments, microtubules, and keratin, and are positive for mucin staining. GES-1 cells exhibit no tumorigenicity in nude mice after 6 months of observation, confirming their non-tumorigenic nature. This cell line serves as an important model for investigating human gastric carcinogenesis and is widely used in gastric cancer research, drug screening, toxicology studies, and related fields.
