Background:
MFE-280 was derived from a recurrent, poorly differentiated endometrial carcinoma in a 78-year-old patient. Initially, the cells were grown as suspension aggregates for one year, after which they were adapted to monolayer culture. Karyotype analysis revealed a near-diploid karyotype with a complex heterogeneous aberration pattern. MFE-280 cells are positive for cytokeratins 7, 8, 18, and 19, as well as vimentin. Additionally, the cells express placental protein 14 (PP14). They have been shown to be tumorigenic in nude mice.
