Background:
WM115 cells are a tumorigenic (VGP) primary melanoma cell line with metastatic potential. This cell line was established from a metastatic site (right anterior leg skin) in a 55-year-old female with superficial spreading melanoma. The subject had a VGP tumor with Clark level III and a thickness of 2.24 mm. This cell line harbors a specific V600D (Val600Asp) mutation at codon 600 of the BRAF gene. It also exhibits PTEN loss of function, including hemizygous deletion. This cell line is derived from the same patient as the cell lines WM239A, WM165-1, and WM266-4. WM115 originated from a skin metastasis, while WM239A, WM165-1, and WM266-4 were derived from individual lymph-node metastases. WM115 is wild-type for the N-RAS, c-KIT, and CDK4 genes. When injected into immunocompromised mice, WM115 cells form xenograft tumors.
