Background:
GCT was established from fragments of metastatic lung tissue from a patient with malignant fibrous histiocytoma. This cell line spontaneously produces colony-stimulating activity (CSA) for human granulocyte precursors and erythropoiesis-enhancing activity (EEA) for erythroid precursors in serum-free medium. Conditioned medium from this cell line can be used as a source of prostaglandin E and plasminogen activator. The cell line itself expresses surface antigens consistent with both monocytic and fibroblastic lineages.
