Background:
WI-38 VA-13 subline 2RA is a fibroblast cell line established in 1964 by SV40 transformation of WI-38 human lung fibroblasts, which were originally derived from the lung of a 3-month-old female human embryo. WI-38 cells were infected with low-titer SV40 virus; following continuous passaging and clonal selection, several sublines were isolated. The 2RA subline harbors SV40 neo(T) and transplantation antigens, which override its original finite lifespan and allow indefinite propagation under standard culture conditions.
