Long Description:
Chemical. CAS: 78338-22-4. Formula: C12H9N3S . C2H4O2. MW: BD9837. Thionin acetate is a strongly staining metachromatic dye that is widely used for biological staining, especially in histology. Thionine can be used in place of Schiff reagent in quantitative Feulgen staining of DNA or to mediate electron transfer in microbial fuel cells. It is also employed as a general nuclear stain for chromatin and mucin or for staining Nissl granules by end-point buffering and for showing malignant cells in frozen biopsy sections. Spectral data: Absorbance ~597-601 nm.
