Description:
Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which is obtained from Streptomyces kanamyceticus. It associates with the small ribosomal subunit of prokaryotes and thus inhibits protein synthesis. Kanamycin is usually used in laboratories to isolate bacteria which carry genes that have been joined to Kanamycin resistant genes.
